Josh Hamilton’s Misfortune With Fans Continues

I really don’t know how to make that headline descriptive and yet kind to the most sensitive issue of the day.

It must have been a long Thursday night and Friday for Josh Hamilton. His common baseball actions played a role (albeit it basically insignificant) in a man’s death. It was a man whose 6-year-old son was with him at the game and watched it happen. That boy’s favorite player: Josh Hamilton. With the help of his family, it sounds like Hamilton has rightfully removed any guilt he may have felt.

The Rangers would have completely understood if he wanted a day off. But less than 24 hours later, Hamilton was back in the lineup, hitting third. He went 1-for-5 with a run scored against Oakland. But once again, another bizarre event between a spectator and Hamilton is getting the headlines.

It’s not difficult to envision Hamilton sitting in a corner of the Rangers’ clubhouse after being told what happened to today’s injured fan and simply wondering “What next?” while shaking his head.

I think Josh knows the meaning of the word “endure” pretty well by now. He’ll be just fine in time. But in this moment, he may certainly believe that fate is stacked against him.
