Brian Murphy (@Spokes_Murphy)

I am a lover of most sports, especially baseball. My favorite teams are the Yankees, Lakers, New York Giants and those from my alma mater, the University of Central Florida Knights.

The blog title is taken from a personal predicament. I was born with cerebral palsy, so walking — and playing sports — is not exactly my forte. Like Simon Cowell, I will provide judgment and opinion on a topic in which I have no discernible talent.

If you have any questions about sports or me or whatever else, send an e-mail to brianmunsonmurphy@gmail.com

Thanks for reading!

Good prediction on Grienke not being very talented. It clearly gives you solidification that you are clearly among the nations top bloggers and “sports writers.” I guess it is now to know ones surprise that you actually graduated from such a fine Central Florida in ONLY 6 1/2 years. Half of the people that you named in this article about all of these guys having no talent probably could have written a 300 times better post than yourself.

    Love with all my heart,
    Dan

P.s. You’re a no talent asshole. Go get drunk and drive your trike around, see if ya can’t hurt yourself.

Dan, I have no problem if you don’t like something I write, but I think you are a bit confused here.

The Greinke caption “Nope, not very talented” was pure sarcasm and was written as a shot to those who underestimated that 2002 draft class. In my writing about the 2002 draft, I linked to an article which stated how scouts at the time said that draft doesn’t have a lot of talent in it. See for yourself:
    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/draft/index.htm

So while Bryan Bullington was projected to be a good player, but not great, he was seen as the best prospect among a less-than-stellar field.

But then you had B.J. Upton at No. 2, Zack Greinke at No. 6, Prince Fielder at No. 7, and Cole Hamels at No. 17. As I wrote about those players: “Yeah, there is absolutely no talent there.”

That was just sarcasm to point out how stupid these scouts and GMs look seven years after the fact.

    But thanks for reading.

Brian i think u are 100% wrong on James Lofton not being a good or funny broadcaster! The comment about BALLS ON THE GROUND was EXTREMELY relevant for the game as everyone was talkin about Brett Favre singin the dumb song after they beat Dallas! He has graded out better than most this year so u may be on the down side for analyzing broadcasters

Hey, Kevin. Thanks for the comment and thanks for reading.

Maybe it was a bad night for James, but I just didn’t enjoy any part of his analysis. Like I said in that post, I hate listening to sports on the radio. I need to see the action as it develops. I trust very few to legitimately describe the action accurately. So, Lofton could be a fine announcer. He was just bad for that game, in my opinion. And it was more than just the “Pants on the Ground” joke.

I understand that the “Balls on the Ground” tie-in was relevant because of the fumbles and the popularity of that song, accentuated by Favre’s embarrassing performance. But as soon as Lofton said that line, it just made me cringe. The way he set it up and how he said it, it was so lame and such a desperate attempt to be comedic. I could only slap my forehead and groan.

If he’s a good announcer to your ears, that’s fine. Maybe I’ll give him another shot. But I don’t plan on listening to an NFL game on the radio if I can help it. And that has nothing to do with James Lofton.

    Again, thanks for reading!
